10 Things To Have Ready Before Baby Comes Home

Bringing a new baby home is an exciting time, but it can also be a little overwhelming. It’s important to prepare for the arrival of your new bundle of joy so that you can focus on enjoying those first few weeks together. Here are ten things you should get ready before a new baby comes home. Disclosure: Some of the links below are affiliate links. 1. Baby’s sleeping area

Your baby will need a safe place to sleep, such as a crib, bassinet, or co-sleeper. Make sure you have it set up and ready to go before you bring your baby home. I used the Graco pack and play which includes a baby bassinet.

2. Diapering supplies

Babies go through a lot of diapers, so make sure you have plenty on hand. Stock up on diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, and changing pads. I used a Diaper Genie for disposing of the wipes and dirty diapers.

3. Clothing and blankets

Newborns grow quickly, so don’t go overboard on newborn clothing. A few onesies, sleepers, and hats should be sufficient. You’ll also want some soft blankets for swaddling and snuggling.

4. Feeding supplies

Whether you plan to breastfeed or bottle-feed, you’ll need supplies. For breastfeeding, you’ll need nursing bras, nursing pads, and a breast pump (I used the Spectra S2). For bottle-feeding, you’ll need bottles, nipples, and formula. I had to supplement with formula, and cannot recommend the Baby Brezza enough. My husband calls it the “Formula Keurig”.

5. Car seat

A car seat is a must-have for any new baby. Make sure it’s installed correctly and that you know how to use it before your baby arrives. I really like our Britax seat and stroller combo.

6. Baby monitor

A baby monitor can give you peace of mind when your baby is sleeping. There are many options available, from audio-only to video and movement monitors. I personally used the Infant Optics DXR-8.

7. Baby bath supplies

Your baby will need regular baths, so make sure you have a baby bathtub, baby shampoo, and baby soap.

8. First aid supplies

Accidents can happen, so make sure you have a first aid kit on hand. It should include items such as a thermometer, infant pain reliever, and infant nail clippers.

9. Support system

Having a support system in place can make a big difference in those first few weeks with a new baby. Reach out to family and friends, join a mom’s group, or hire a postpartum doula if you need extra help.

10. Self-care items

Don’t forget about yourself! Make sure you have some self-care items on hand, such as snacks, water bottles, a comfortable nursing pillow, and a good book or movie for those late-night feedings.

Preparing for a new baby can seem overwhelming, but taking the time to get organized can make a big difference. Make sure you have the essentials on hand, reach out to your support system for help, and don’t forget to take care of yourself too. With a little preparation, you can focus on enjoying those first few weeks with your new b
