8 Fun Things to Do With Your Kids Now That Warm Weather is Here

No, I am not suggesting you put your cowboy three year old son on an ATV with a bat! That’s a special role just for Jason, apparently. However, now that the warm weather is here, it’s time to get outside with your young children and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Spending time outdoors is not only beneficial for your children’s physical health, but it can also help boost their mood and promote creativity and imagination. Here are some fun and engaging activities you can do with your young children outside.

  1. Explore nature

Take a walk through a park or nature reserve and point out different trees, flowers, and wildlife to your child. You can also collect leaves or stones and make a nature collage when you get back home.

  1. Visit a farm

Many farms offer tours or activities for young children. They can learn about different animals and crops and even participate in hands-on activities like petting animals or picking their own fruit.

  1. Have a picnic

Pack a blanket and some snacks and head to your local park for a picnic. Let your child choose the spot and help prepare the food.

  1. Play in the sand

If you live near a beach or have a sandbox in your backyard, encourage your child to build sandcastles or dig for hidden treasures.

  1. Fly a kite

On a windy day, take a trip to a nearby field and fly a kite with your child. It’s a fun and active way to spend time together.

  1. Ride a bike

If your child has a bike, take them for a ride around the neighborhood or a nearby bike trail. It’s a great way to get some exercise and explore the area. Remember to wear a helmet, please!

  1. Play games

Bring some outdoor games like frisbee, soccer, or tag to a local park and play with your child. It’s a fun way to get active and spend time together.

  1. Do some gardening

If you have a garden at home, involve your child in planting and watering flowers or vegetables. It’s a great way to teach them about responsibility and the environment. I have another article specifically about gardening with young children here.

Remember to always prioritize safety when spending time outdoors with your young children. Apply sunscreen and insect repellent, and make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. With these fun and engaging activities, you and your child can make the most of the warm weather and create lasting memories together.
